Exploring Skandal's Design

Peter Wiegel

Display

Open Source

Skandal font is a display typeface expressing decorative elegance through fancy vintage construction with extended Cyrillic support. The ornate letterforms project sophisticated drama suitable for entertainment branding, theatrical promotion, and Eastern European luxury applications. Decorative details create memorable identity while vintage influences add period glamour. Effective for cabaret venues, prestige events, and dramatic communications. Complements classical serif companions.

Skandal comes from the work of Peter Wiegel. The typeface brings careful attention to typographic detail, visible in its letterform construction and optical balance.

As a Display typeface in the Vox-ATypI Graphic classification, Skandal features tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These optical characteristics make it well-suited for hero headlines and landing page headers.

Skandal is available in a single weight, offering focused typographic consistency for both digital and print applications, with 3 font pairings curated. Extended language support spanning Cyrillic, Greek, and Latin Extended ensures reliable rendering across global audiences.
