Exploring Politburo's Design

Sergey Shishin

Display

Open Source

Politburo font is a bold display typeface featuring modern Cyrillic-supporting letterforms. Authoritative and Soviet, this design delivers communist aesthetics for historical products, political entertainment, and Cold War themed communications. The bold construction creates imposing presence with political authority. Designers working on Soviet history products, political games, and Cold War entertainment will appreciate the bureaucratic character. Pair with clean body text.

Politburo comes from the work of Sergey Shishin. The typeface reflects a focus on typographic detail, visible in its letterform construction and optical balance.

As a Display typeface in the Vox-ATypI Graphic classification, Politburo features tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These optical characteristics make it well-suited for editorial magazine covers and chapter openers.

Politburo is available in a single weight, offering focused typographic consistency spanning screen and print contexts, with 3 font pairings curated. Standard Latin character coverage serves the majority of Western typographic workflows.
