About

The Design of Ici Gist

Michele Casanova

Display

Open Source

Ici Gist font is a decorative display typeface featuring medieval old-style letterforms. Historical and somber, this design delivers cemetery aesthetics for memorial products, gothic entertainment, and heritage communications. The decorative construction evokes historical headstone inscriptions while old-style character creates period authenticity. Designers working on funeral services, gothic products, and historical commemorations will appreciate the reverent character. Pair with traditional serif body text.

Ici Gist comes from the work of Michele Casanova. The typeface reflects a focus on typographic detail, visible in its letterform construction and optical balance.

As a Display typeface in the Vox-ATypI Graphic classification, Ici Gist features tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These optical characteristics make it well-suited for editorial magazine covers and chapter openers.

Ici Gist is available in a single weight, offering focused typographic consistency spanning screen and print contexts, with 3 font pairings curated. Standard Latin character coverage serves the majority of Western typographic workflows.
