The Story of Germanica

Peter Wiegel

Display

Open Source

Germanica font is a display typeface presenting blackletter gothic forms through vintage Cyrillic-supported construction for Pan-Germanic historical aesthetics. The traditional letterforms project Central European heritage suitable for craft brewing, Germanic cultural events, and design projects celebrating broader Germanic typographic traditions. Gothic vintage forms provide period authenticity while Cyrillic support extends reach. Effective for heritage products, traditional celebrations, and historical applications.

Germanica was designed by Peter Wiegel. The typeface shows dedication to typographic detail, visible in its letterform construction and optical balance.

As a Display typeface in the Vox-ATypI Graphic classification, Germanica features tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These optical characteristics make it well-suited for brand logotypes and wordmarks.

Germanica is available in a single weight, offering focused typographic consistency for both digital and print applications, with 3 font pairings curated. Standard Latin character coverage serves the majority of Western typographic workflows.
