Bayern was created by Darren Rigby. The typeface demonstrates a commitment to typographic detail, visible in its letterform construction and optical balance.

As a Display typeface in the Vox-ATypI Graphic classification, Bayern features tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These optical characteristics make it well-suited for event posters and promotional materials.

Bayern is available in a single weight, offering focused typographic consistency spanning screen and print contexts, with 3 font pairings curated. Standard Latin character coverage serves the majority of Western typographic workflows.

Accessibility & Usability

66
Accessibility Score
Good Accessibility

Using Bayern Accessibly

Bayern falls in the moderate accessibility tier, working best at medium-to-large sizes where its letterforms remain clearly differentiated. Decorative features may reduce legibility for users with cognitive disabilities. Always provide sufficient size contrast between display and body text.

Legibility Analysis: Bayern

Bayern draws legibility from its tight spacing optimized for large point sizes and exaggerated contrast, weight, or decorative features. These characteristics help readers distinguish similar glyphs such as I, l, and 1 at a range of sizes.

Bayern Reading Performance

Designed exclusively for sizes above 24 pt. Display faces sacrifice small-size legibility for visual impact and personality at headline scale. Use at 16 px minimum for body text, and maintain 1.5 line-height to support comfortable reading rhythm.

Bayern: Comfort in Extended Reading

Bayern provides a focused weight range that maintains consistent typographic color across paragraphs. Balanced stroke modulation keeps visual noise low during sustained reading sessions.

Bayern Accessibility Recommendations

Maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text when setting Bayern. Use font sizes of at least 16 px for paragraph copy and line spacing of 1.5 or greater. Test Bayern at 200% browser zoom to confirm line breaks and layout integrity remain intact.

Best Practices for Using Bayern

Anchor with a neutral text serif or sans-serif. The display face should carry personality while the text face carries readability. A focused set of pairings helps designers find compatible companions for Bayern. Establish hierarchy through size, spacing, and color rather than multiplying font families. Serve Bayern in WOFF2 format for optimal load performance and broad browser compatibility.
